THE DISH on JOYCE J. SCOTT
Joyce J. Scott is a visual and performance artist best known for her depictions of racially and politically charged subjects that she crafts from beads, glass, fiber and found objects. She is a gifted storyteller with a narrative influenced by a cultural cornucopia and delivered through sculpture and song.
Scott was recognized in 2016 as a MacArthur Foundation Fellow and named a Smithsonian Visionary Artist in 2019. Her work is included in the current exhibition, Reflecting Perspectives: Artists Confront Issues of Diversity and Inclusion, at Bergstrom-Mahler Museum of Glass. Scott’s work is included in the permanent collections of the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the National Museum of African American History and Culture, the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum of Arts and Design in New York, the Baltimore Art Museum, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Houston Museum of Fine Arts, the Corning Museum of Glass and many other renowned institutions.
