 Docent Led Gallery Tour

We offer docent led tours that cover glass art history from its very beginnings to today. Our docents illuminate learning via hands on experiences and interaction with our amazing exhibits and permanent glass collection. Tours can be tailored to group size, age, and interest. Please schedule at least 3 weeks in advance.

K -12th Grade Fee: $3 per student (1 chaperone free per 10 students)

College Fee: $5 per student

Adult Groups Fee: $7 per adult

Fee waived for all Bergstrom-Mahler Museum of Glass Members

Large groups will be split into smaller groups of 10-15

Minimum of 5 visitors for a docent led tour

*Self-guided tours are free but we ask that you schedule your visit with the museum if your group is larger than 10 people

Docent Led tours are complimentary with a group of 20 or more who participate in a glass art project of $20 or higher.

Kindle Creativity with a Glass Art Project

Glass art projects are beneficial to all groups. Our fused glass projects grant you the power to create colorful, dynamic works of glass art that are completely unique. Options of fused glass art are listed below.

Pendants/ key chains

Participants will receive pendants to decorate. After firing, a jewelry bail is glued on and a key ring is attached if desired. The final size of each piece is about 1 x1.5”. Project takes about 30-40 minutes. $5 per project.

 

 

 

Sun catcher

Students create a hanging sun catcher to place in their window. Project usually takes 45 minutes to one hour. You can select a $20, $15, or $10 price point.

 

 

Self-portrait

Students learn about portraying more than meets the eye. Glass is used to create a self-portrait and hooks can be attached for easy hanging. Project usually takes about 45 minutes to an hour. $20 per project.

 

 

Flameworking  Demonstration

Students watch as an artist demonstrates flame working. Topics like thermal shock, amorphous solids, states of matter, and annealing are included. Techniques similar to ones displayed throughout the museum are covered and it’s narrated to assure that people of all ages can understand the process.

Fee: $50 up to 20 people ($10 fee increase per additional 10 people)

Glass Blowing Demonstration

The glass blowing demonstrations are live educational experiences providing an insight into working with various hot glass techniques. Bergstrom-Mahler Museum of Glass glass blowing demonstration provides an informative and entertaining look at what glass is, how it behaves at high temperatures, and how people manipulate glass to create beautiful works of art. The demonstration is appropriate for ages 5 and up, with older groups getting more advanced information. The demonstration lasts a little over an hour. Seats will be provided. The type of glass pieces being made will vary depending on the artist demonstrating.

On-Site Fee: $200 up to 20 people ($10 fee increase per additional 10 people)

Off-Site Fee: $500 (plus travel fees based on distance traveled)

  • Group glass blowing demonstrations are charged a $25.00 administrative fee (per group) for any reservation or registration cancellation made less than 14 days prior to the scheduled activity.
  • Group demonstrations may reschedule 14 or more days in advance of the event without penalty. There is a $25/student rescheduling fee for all glass demonstrations rescheduled less than 14 days.

Glass on the Go

We at the museum understand that traveling to our museum may not be an option for you, so we have developed Glass on the Go. This program allows members of the museum staff to come to you. This program can be catered to your classroom needs. Example Topic Areas: Science, History, Art History, Glass Art, Self-Expression, Storytelling and more.

Virtual Field Trips

Utilizing technology has become the way of the world. We at the museum would love to assist you in developing a virtual fieldtrip for your classroom, family, or more. Each fieldtrip can be catered to your groups interest and needs.

Online tours of our collection are available anytime via Google Arts and Culture.
