The Fox Valley Area High School Glass Exhibition at Bergstrom-Mahler Museum of Glass will open on Saturday, March 4th to showcase talented young area artists in celebration of national Youth Art Month. Among the 242 students from 16 area schools who participated are 19 students of Jane Schmitz from Chilton High School.
For the first time, students from Chilton made the trek across Lake Winnebago in January to work in The Glass Studio. Their instructor, Jane Schmitz, wanted them to see the resources available to them in their community. While at BMMOG they learned basic flameworking techniques from Beth Wenger Johnstone. With Sara Rezin In the fusing studio, many of them used slumping techniques to make fused glass dishes.
Of their museum experience, Schmitz hopes “the students will bring others to the museum and spark conversations with parents to make them aware of community offerings.”
We do, too.
Here is some of the student work.
