The Fox Valley Area High School Glass Exhibition at Bergstrom-Mahler Museum of Glass will open on Saturday, March 4th to showcase talented young area artists in celebration of national Youth Art Month. Among the 242 students from 16 area schools who participated are students of Tim Brunn at Freedom High School.

The students learned to work over a torch and do fused glass projects. This year they focused on reactive glass techniques, whereby specific glasses are layered on top of one another to create color reactions with the metals in the different glass layers. Students also included sulfur foil and copper wire in their creations.

Mr Brunn says he doesn’t have the budget to do glass and appreciates the opportunity for a field trip. Coming to the museum gives the students a “different way of thinking and a new medium to explore”. He added that in a time where everyone is looking at screens, “a project that takes a long time to do, like this, is good for their attention spans”.
