The Fox Valley Area High School Glass Exhibition at Bergstrom-Mahler Museum of Glass will open on Saturday, March 4th to showcase talented young area artists in celebration of national Youth Art Month.
Kim Becker, an art teacher at Valders High School, brought 14 of her students to the museum to work in The Glass Studio with Beth Wenger Johnstone and Sara Rezin. The students learned basic flameworking and how to create fused glass objects doing open designs with negative space.
Becker brought the students to work in the studio to work with a medium that she cannot accommodate in her classroom. She thought it important they experience the fine arts in a new setting and view contemporary art.
Of the benefit of the museum experience she said, “I believe that kids need a variety of experiences outside the classroom to inspire their work and show them the different careers in the arts. I like to see the students create in a more relaxed environment.”
Here is some of their work.
